1. You have used both a static (written) and a dynamic version (animated) of the tutorial. Which version do you prefer and why?
Animated. It walked through the use of the product. There was too much reading, so I skipped a lot of it, because I was not able to manipulate the product as I was reading. 4/5/11 7:54AM View Responses The animated version is better than the text-based tutorial. It was easier to follow, despite the fact that it's the same script. For myself, I know that I'm a visual learner and the walkthrough video was easier for me to follow. 4/5/11 8:01AM View Responses I prefer the animated version, because it attends to the visual and auditory learner. The instructions are clear and easy to follow 4/5/11 8:36AM View Responses I don't think either is necessary as the interface is pretty intuitive. If I had to choose one, I would say the written one. A user would then be able to refer to a paper document and use their computer/smart phone at the same time. 4/5/11 8:38AM View Responses
Robin's Observations: User group 1 observations
Video 1
Easily navigated – used navigational cues in the video
Asked for clarification – re process of adding picture & icon – seems to be the same – told it was the same process
Pause feature – was able to use to pause and ask a question
Said “It’s a well-put-together tutorial”
Suggested icons could be different – i.e. one icon was used for two different processes – check this
Suggested using a disk icon for saving
X – try again
X – cancel – same icon?
Save & exit
Save & add picture – watch icons – e.g. file folder icon/photo album to save pictures in
Said Jingle is very memorable
User group 2
Could rotate to landscape to make it easier to read
Hard to read the text on the screen
(Limitation of the way in which we presented)
I don’t think I need the instructions – interface is laid out in a fairly intuitive manner –
But the instructions are good – just don’t think they are necessary
Meant for novice users – but wouldn’t be intended for advanced – don’t think he would ever use the written instructions –would just use the application
General comments – would probably use the video over text – because you can see what to do, rather than just use – would probably play with it first – then if I couldn’t figure it out then I’d go to the video
Less tech savy may go to the text first and not use the video
I would use product first, then go to video, then text
It is clear – the instructions
